We faced the challenge of delivering a catalog to market faster than our existing process allowed. It was taking approximately eight months to complete a catalog, by which time much of the information was already outdated.
Our catalog creation process was manual, time-consuming and difficult to manage across four different markets. Production was done in Adobe InDesign, making the workflow tedious for our teams . We also lacked a single, centralized source of product information and data, which led to inconsistent updates, delays, and a more heavy, manual workload.
To address this, we needed to adopt a new catalog development process. This process had to incorporate clear planning, automation, quick and easy access to accurate product data, and provided a print-ready solution and an interactive digital version.
DCatalog’s catalog automation platform converts our raw product data from our internal product data system. This data is dynamically fed into pre-designed, branded PDF templates created by the DCatalog team. The output is a visually polished, on-brand catalog—automatically generated using our most current data. Any time we need to update product information in the catalog, we simply refresh the source data and regenerate the catalog on demand. This eliminates the need for manual layout updates and drastically reduces turnaround time. DCatalog’s automation also ensures that all catalog content remains consistent and up-to-date across our digital channels. In addition, the platform supports layout customization across our product lines while standardizing design and format, giving us the perfect balance of brand control and efficiency.
When it came time to find a solution that would speed things while offering us a seamless transition into the digital catalog realm, our entire marketing team got involved. We evaluated three companies basing our decision on several key requirements: the functionality and usability of the software; integration capabilities and branding flexibility; user-friendliness of the platform for both internal and external use; and an assessment of time and cost efficiency.
After evaluating multiple vendors, we selected DCatalog because it was the only company that could streamline our entire catalog creation process through intelligent automation and seamless integration with our product data systems. Besides matching the ability to handle all of our product lines and extensive product offerings, an important factor in our decision was the ability to customize the catalogs to match the look and feel of our brands, while standardizing layouts. We also valued the platform’s ability to support both print-ready PDFs and interactive digital catalogs.
While the initial process of building and executing the catalog took a bit longer than we expected, we appreciated the professionalism of the DCatalog team as they guided us through each step. We’re just beginning to unlock the full potential of catalog automation. With DCatalog, we’re no longer tied to lengthy production timelines! We recently launched our catalog, and have enjoyed tracking the data via analytics to see how it is being used, both internally by the sales team, and externally in the field. We’re looking forward to analyzing deeper insights over the next six months as we continue scaling our digital catalog strategy with speed and precision.
